209 years ago, a battle was fought right here in Middlesex County. During the war of 1812, the Battle of Longwoods took place right near Wardsville in Southwest Middlesex. It is the only battle to have happened in the county. Ken Willis, Official Wardsville Historian, tells myFM the battle was fought in the cold in the dead of winter.
The Glencoe Historical Society will be hosting a Battle of Longwoods Memorial Service on Sunday March 5th to commemorate the Battle. Willis says there is lots to look forward too.
There will also be a three gun volley salute. Anyone is welcome to come out. The service starts at 1:45pm at the site of the Battle (2945 Longwoods Rd, Glencoe).
