A new bakery is opening today in Strathroy, located at 380 Albert Street Unit 1. U.Cake is a Ukrainian bakery with a little bit of a French twist. Mykola Bilovol, who co-owns the bakery with his wife Iryna says the name of the bakery has a special meaning to them, but can mean different things for different people.
The bakery will specialize in French macaroons but will also have Columbian soured coffee and teas. The Bilovols have been in Canada for 6 months as of this past Monday. Mykola was an air traffic controller and Iryna has a masters degree in marketing, and they also have two young children. They came to Canada to get away from the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Iryna loves to bake and craft. They say they have had the thought of opening their own shop for a very long time.
Mykola says they put it off for a long time but thought why not take the risk and just do it. The bakery will be open Monday to Friday from 10am to 6pm and Saturdays 11am to 5pm. You can find U.Cake on Facebook and Instagram.
