Some startling stats coming from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s report recently, saying 2022 saw the highest number of fire-related deaths in more than 20 years with 133. Unfortunately Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Chief Brent Smith says he isn’t surprised by the stats.
Fire Chief Smith says the level of frustration based on these stats isn’t something to ignore.
Stats revealed that 1 in 3 fire-related deaths happen in the months of November, December and January. Chief Smith says there are some factors as to why that is including high use and dependence on home heating devices, and the fact that more people are home during those months. Smith says it is extremely frustrating that people still don’t have alarms which will save lives.
