Blizzard conditions in the area have caused a 50+ car pile up on the 402. Earlier today there were two accidents on the 402 near Strathroy. One in the Westbound lane at Inadale Drive that caused the lane too close. The other happened in the Westbound lane between Glendon Drive and Hickory Drive that closed all lanes of traffic. Around 1pm today Middlesex OPP announced that the 402 from Sarnia to London was closed due to poor weather conditions; that included icy and snow covered roads, winds and low visibility. Around 2pm, OPP announced that 50+ vehicles were involved in a pileup on the 402 near Kerwood.
OPP have been urging everyone to stay home as driving conditions are poor. Over in neighbouring Huron, OPP closed all roads due to collisions, vehicles in ditches and the blizzard that is wrecking havoc on Ontario.
Staff Sergeant Brent Cushman with the Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service says “I know it has been said many times, but if you do not need to travel, please stay home. It is treacherous out there on our roadways and travelling is not safe. It puts you, others and first responders at unnecessary risk.”
Please stay home if travel is unnecessary.
