Plenty of emotions came forward Friday in a London Court room as the family of 8-year-old Nihal Toor, made victim impact statements in the sentencing hearing for the incident that killed Toor at the hands of an impaired driver in 2020 just outside of Strathroy. The family had been visiting London relatives back in July of 2020, when their vehicle was hit close to the Hickory Drive and Egremont Drive intersection in Strathroy. Nihal later died in hospital, 35-year-old Alicia Van Bree was arrested shortly after the incident, and pleaded guilty last August to impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm. The Crown has asked for an 8-year prison sentence, while the defense has requested 2-3 years. The matter has now been put over to this Friday when a date for sentencing will be chosen.
