More residential and potential more commercial heading to Strathroy’s South end just into the boundary of Ward 2 as Council this week approved an application this week for a Zoning By-law Amendment for 24648 Adelaide Road, which is the property on Highway 81 just Northwest of the traffic lights at Canadian Tire. The intent of the application is to construct a 5-storey mixed-use apartment building containing 52 residential units and some commercial space with parking and outdoor amenity area. There was discussion from council on the proximity of the proposed entrance to the new building being off of the highway to the traffic lights at Canadian Tire says Ward 1 councillor Marie Baker.
Ward 1 councillor Steve Pelkman says area commercial business owners could see this addition as beneficial.
An Open House was held on September 15, 2021, where the application was discussed with a neighbour and council member, raising questions about the parking, massing and shadows from the building, access to Adelaide Road and privacy. A statutory public meeting was held on August 2, 2022. Comments were received that were similar to those received at the open house. Plenty more here:
