It is Hidden Gems Feature Day here on myFM and right now we are featuring Sharon Creek Conservation Area in Delaware. The area is located at 4212 Springer Road and has a beautiful body of water for leisure water sports, like kayaking and canoeing, as well as about 2-3km worth of trails. Randall Van Wagner, Manager of Conservation Lands and Services at the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, says the area wasn’t always the way it is now.
Sharon Creek is also known for their Tallgrass Prairie, the biggest one in Middlesex County. Although the reservoir is the main attraction, Van Wagner says the trails are absolutely beautiful. The tall grasses and wildflowers attract birds and insects like butterflies that you may not see anywhere else.
The park is open year-round; however, the water does freeze in the winter. Parking is available and you can bring your furry friends too.
Sharon Creek also has a unique partnership with the London Canoe Club. Members of the club are welcome to sign out equipment from the club and use with family and friends. The Conservation Authority is also looking to start a ‘Friends of Sharon Creek club’.
