For the first time in 12 years, there is a new Mayor elect in Strathroy-Caradoc and that is Colin Grantham after a long hard fought campaign, he garnered 4032 votes to defeat long time Mayor Joanne Vanderheyden in this year’s Municipal Election by a whopping 1350 votes considering just 6956 total votes were cast for the seat and Grantham winning 58% of the vote. There were 906 more votes cast for the Mayor’s seat in 2022 than there were in 2018. Grantham says it was along rewarding campaign.
Vanderheyden says the results were obviously disappointing but she thanked the community for her tenure.
She added moving forward she’ll have some free time and hoping to serve the community in other ways. Issues like affordable housing, transparency, the Mount Brydges sewage plant and new arena were just some of the issues residents were not happy about with Vanderheyden and her administration but it’s very apparent, that residents and pretty safe to say many of them from Ward 2 who have felt left out of municipal decisions for the past few years spoke up and spoke loud and made their votes count during the election as Vanderheyden received 1905 less votes than she did 4 years ago. Mayoral Candidate Dan Berdan was 3rd in voting followed by Brad Bock.
