By the amount and the variety of candidates officially entered into this October’s Strathroy-Caradoc Municipal election at this point, it’s pretty apparent, the current local issues and the last 2 pandemic years have created a potential public push for change in local Municipal politics.
Things will be very interesting come this fall when residents of Strathroy-Caradoc get to vote on a new council. The composition of Council will most definitely have a new look, whether that’s a good thing or not is yet to be determined. For the first time in decades, the Mayor’s seat will be contested by at least 4 candidates. Brad Bock who until this week had been listed as a candidate for Deputy Mayor is now on the ballot for Mayor along side Colin Grantham and incumbent Joanne Vanderheyden. You can add a 4th candidate now looking to be Strathroy-Caradoc’s next Mayor and that is Daniel Berdan, who will be featured by myFM early next week.
myFM has also confirmed that current Ward 2 Councillors Larry Cowan and Neil Flegel will not be seeking re-election. We have also confirmed Ward 1 Councillor Marie Baker will not be running either which means at least 3 out of 7 council seats this year will have a guaranteed new face. For the Deputy Mayor’s seat at this point it will be a rematch of the 2018 election pitting Mike McGuire against incumbent Brad Richards where 4 years ago the 2 were only separated by just over 800 votes. myFM will have full election coverage in October.
