A community inclusion crosswalk or rainbow crosswalk is moving ahead thanks to council approval recently. myFM reported to you back in February, that the Strathroy Pride organization requested Council to pass a motion to install a Rainbow Crosswalk in the Town of Strathroy. Council asked Staff to review and report back on the costs. Town staff met with Strathroy Pride in early March to get a quote and two possible locations were listed one being the intersection of Front and Frank streets, and the other at the intersection of Frank and Centre streets. Council not only approved to move forward with a crosswalk at Frank and Centre in a funding partnership with Strathroy Pride, they will also be looking at a potential location in Mount Brydges. Councillor Neil Flegel.
Councillor Sandi Hipple says she’s very happy with the project and location.
Councillor Steve Pelkman says this project promotes what we need to continue trying to promote.
Once a timeline is determined for the Strathroy location, to minimize disruption, it would be completed in the overnight hours with part of Frank Street being closed. The cost of the crosswalk for that location with anti skid surface with 11 colours and lines 60 cm wide by 3 meters in length would cost $2924.00 (Excluding HST). The Strathroy Pride Organization is looking for donations to help fund the Rainbow Crosswalk. you can visit STRATHROYPRIDE.ORG to make a donation. County Council also approved a motion this week to look at other locations in the county for community inclusion crosswalks including Mount Brydges.
