The growth of electric vehicles hit Strathroy-Caradoc Council this week as they discussed the accommodation of area drivers with bringing in more charging stations. Council unanimously approved the installation of new charging ports around Strathroy-Caradoc with 8 proposed sites which may and could change as the process moves forward. Director of Community Services Ron Lilbourne says these charging stations will be for the public as well with user charges.
Council did approve a contribution totaling $110,000 towards the project coming from the municipal Green Energy Reserve Fund, in combination with support from a grant from Natural Resources Canada to the tune of $110,000.
Eventually, there will be throughout the community, 22 new Level 2 charging ports installed which will be for public use and also municipal vehicle use as Strathroy-Caradoc currently has no electric vehicles other than the Gemini Ice Resurfacer but currently have 4 electric vehicles on order.
