A teacher at Strathroy’s Our Lady Immaculate Catholic School has been charged in relation to impaired driving and careless driving.
Back in April of 2021, Michael Dunning, a grade 4-8 French teacher was pulled over in his home town of Watford.
Police noticed a beer can on the console of Dunning’s car and asked if he had been drinking, to which he said yes, subsequently failing a roadside breath test. Dunning also has a release order in effect, with a condition not to be outside his home while under the influence.
He pled guilty to two charges, was fined a total of $1250 for failing to comply with a release order and careless driving. He did NOT plead guilty to any impaired driving charges and all other charges at the time were dropped.
Dunning checked into a facility last summer and recently completed the second phase. He is interested in doing a third session this summer.
Dunning declined to address the court and it is not clear what effects the charges will have on Dunnings’s employment status at Our Lady Immaculate Catholic School.
As of Wednesday, Dunning’s teaching certificate is still standing.
The London District Catholic School board did not respond for comment by the time of publishing, nor did the Ontario College of Teachers.
