The downtown core area of Strathroy may be getting a little more colour to it in the near future as this week at Council, a letter from the Strathroy Pride group was on the discussion table with a proposal request for a rainbow crosswalk to be installed at the proposed intersection of Frank and Front Streets. Part of the group’s proposal included a date of installation being early May before the Downtown Market opens for the season, at the approximate cost of $2000. All Councillors were in support of the initiative but agreed that more information would be needed as Councillor Neil Flegel voiced mild concerns over the projected $2000 cost.
Strathroy Pride also said in their proposal that installation would be simple and require minimal disruption to local traffic, the paint used is a cold plastic application similar to most crosswalks, and the durability is 3-5 years and withstands the winter season. Council approved Councillor Flegel’s motion to send the request back to staff for a cost analysis to then be brought back to council for project approval. The 3rd annual Pride celebration for Strathroy and Middlesex County is tentatively scheduled for July 16th, 2022.
