Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department stations 1 and 2 responded Sunday afternoon to a garage fire at Twin Elm Estates. Fire Chief Brent Smith tells myFM the fire started in the detached garage and was discovered by the home owner themselves. The fire itself grew quickly as a result of many combustibles, flammable liquids and air entrainment.
Chief Smith says the origin of the fire was the garage and the cause was a space heater. He says due to the close proximity of other structures, the fire extended into a sunroom and breezeway as well and also caused some heat damage to the residence next door.
An aggressive attack by fire crews prevented the fire from spreading into the living area of the home and further to the home next door. The fire was called in at 12:46pm with the first Engine arriving 6 minutes later. Approximately 30 firefighters were on the call and damage estimate to all structures is $225,000.
