A busy Monday for the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department as they were called to Meridian Technologies on High Street just after 10am and were welcomed by very heavy smoke conditions, and a fire found in one of the buildings in the facility. All three fire stations were activated with around 30 firefighters on scene at the height of the fire. Five employees of the facility were seen by EMS with three being transported to Strathroy hospital. Chief Brent Smith says the fire was a stubborn one, but was contained and the area returned to facility management about 3 1/2 hours later. The cause is still being determined as well as a damage estimate to the equipment and building. The Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department would like to thank the firefighter’s employers in the community who allow firefighters to leave their full time jobs to respond to fire calls and to protect the community.
