The process is well underway in Sarnia for the rebranding of the Sarnia Arena into the Pat Stapleton Arena, named after the Strathroy resident and NHL ambassador who was Sarnia’s first Junior player to make the National Hockey League and who passed away in 2020. Brian Keelan, who has been instrumental in leading this initiative communicated to Sarnia City Council recently that the issuing of purchase orders is complete to replace three Sarnia arena signs with the new “The Pat Stapleton Arena” moniker. Keelan also said that a 4.5-metre graphic of the member of Team Canada’s 1972 Summit Series team is also ready to be ordered. There have also been talks involving Hockey Canada officials regarding a potential Hockey Night in Canada feature on the Arena rebranding which could happen potentially around September 28th 2022 which is the 50th anniversary of the eighth and final Summit Series game and a Canada win.
