School starts back up this week, and with kids back in the classroom it means students will be making their way to and from school each day on the bus, being driven by a parent, or walking.
Strathroy-Caradoc Police Constable Michelle McIntyre says that keeping this in mind is incredibly important, and giving yourself time each morning to get to work or school to keep kids safe is the key. Constable McIntyre also added that its incredibly important to follow the rules of the road, and follow the crossing guards at stops.
McIntyre says that one thing that everyone should give themselves more time in the morning to get to work as more people will be on the road. She also added that remembering the law surrounding passing a school bus is important.
Constable McIntyre also reminded drivers that it is an offence to pass a stopped school bus with its stop sign out and lights flashing. The driver if convicted could face 6 demerit points, and a fine of $490. Also remembering how drop off zones work in school areas, and if you are dropping your child off on a residential street close to school, not to block residents driveways.
