Plans for a new affordable housing project in Mount Brydges will in fact move forward after a long road of mixed emotions from the public on both sides of the affordable housing discussion. After an original proposed plan for a location in Cenotaph Park in downtown Mount Brydges was shutdown by Council, a new proposed location at 22647 Adelaide Road in the front lawn persay of Tri-Township Arena was unanimously approved by council earlier this month to become a reality. Mayor Joanne Vanderheyden did not shy away from making a statement during the discussion.
The purpose of the zoning by-law amendment application is to permit a 3-storey 37-unit residential apartment building with parking and an outdoor amenity area.
An Open House was held on April 22nd this year, a Statutory Public Meeting on June 21st where residents attended and voiced concerns regarding the proposed rezoning relating to: the loss of green space and trees that it is premature to rezone without understanding the future of the entire parcel, and compatibility with the adjacent land uses.
