The Government of Ontario is taking further action to end hallway health care, while also addressing the issues the COVID-19 pandemic brought to hospitals, by increasing funding for the third year in a row to a pair of local hospitals.
Monte McNaughton, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex announced Friday that Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital and Four Counties Health Services in Newbury are receiving additional funding and an increase in the established funding. SMGH will receive an additional $1,939,900, which is a 4.4% increase to the estimated base and one-time funding from 2020/21 of $31,818,317. Four Counties will receive an additional $191,400 on top of the $9,567,847 received in 2020/21.
McNaughton says this funding shows the provincials government commitment to health care.
Catherine Osborne, Chair of the Board for the Middlesex Hospital Alliance says they are grateful to receive this support.
This money will help not only in the daily operations of the hospitals but also will help in the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic as there were many added costs stemming from it.
