A pretty big announcement for Glencoe recreation Thursday from Monte McNaughton, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. The Government of Ontario, in partnership with the Government of Canada and the Municipality of Southwest Middlesex, is renovating the Glencoe Memorial Arena, Curling Club and replacing the local aging water main.
MPP McNaughton was joined by Kate Young, MP for London West, and Allan Mayhew, Mayor for Southwest Middlesex, to share this good news.
This nearly $2.5 million investment in the Glencoe Memorial Arena and Curling Club will improve the heart of the community with two new dressing rooms, a new sound system, a new washroom, mechanical upgrades, and other improvements. With these renovations, sports and leisure activities can be enhanced, such as those offered by the Glencoe Agricultural Society.
In addition, the Municipality will receive almost $2 million to reconstruct the water main on Glencoe’s Main Street. It will replace the existing water main with a new and larger pipe, 12 new fire hydrants, and replacement of the connections to private water services. The reconstruction will prevent future drinking water advisories, increase water flow, and reduce future maintenance costs. Please visit our website for comments from Monte McNaughton, MP Kate Young and Southwest Middlesex Mayor Allan Mayhew.
Due to its aging watermain, Glencoe has had a history of water crises. In 2018, following a water pipeline break, the local public health unit issued a boil-water advisory for its two thousand residents. That is unacceptable. The Government of Ontario is committed to investing in healthy and safe communities while improving service reliability. I’m excited to see that Glencoe is getting the support it deserves—especially the Glencoe Arena, where I grew up playing hockey.

Our government understands the importance of investing in the infrastructure needs of smaller communities. That is why we are announcing today that we are investing in Glencoe’s future by reconstructing the town’s main watermain and renovating the Glencoe Memorial Arena. These infrastructure investments will benefit all citizens of Glencoe and help support a vibrant and healthy community for many years to come.
– Kate Young, MP for London West
Thank you to Premier Ford, and our local MPP, Minister McNaughton, and all those who supported these investments in Southwest Middlesex. The replacement of an existing water main in our downtown core is essential to help supply safe, clean drinking water within the community of Glencoe. We also welcome the funding for our joint application for upgrades and updates to our local municipal arena and the curling rink, in partnership with the Glencoe Agricultural Society and the Glencoe Curling Club. Working together to encourage and support sports and recreational activities in our community is important for our growing community. These investments will help support improved access to recreational activities and programming, as well as ensuring reliable water service.
