June is Pride Month, and the Strathroy Pride organization is taking this month to gear up for their Pride event happening on July 10th. Strathroy Pride is a not-for-profit organization that celebrates inclusively and diversity in Middlesex County. Their goal is to be a resource for the community, and for the LGBTQ2+ members of the community as a support system and to help educate everyone.
Strathroy Pride had their first pride day last year, still at the beginning of the pandemic, and they had to move all of their events online. This year will also be mostly online, with the exception of a booth at the Strathroy Market, and the Pride Flag raising at city hall. The rest of the day will be filled with online content and events. Frank Emanuele, the Co-Chair and Director of Strathroy Pride said that the support from last year’s event was heartwarming to see, and more than they expected.
For the July 10th event, though this year it cannot take place in person, Frank says that they still have a lot planned.
Next year they hope to do an in-person event at a park so everyone can come together and celebrate pride all together. Frank says that for that event they will need volunteers, so if you are interested in volunteering, you can send them an email, which can be found on their website, and when next years event starts being planned you will be contacted.
