A well established and historic school house in nearby Napier may be on the cusp of being sold and moved elsewhere, but questions remain as to who may buy it and where will it go. At a recent Council meeting, Adelaide Metcalfe Township decided to post an Expression of Interest document for potential buyers of the SS No.3 Metcalfe School House. The school had local students back in the 1900’s and was also a meeting place for the Napier Women’s Institute and is also part of Middlesex County’s Heritage Trail. The process with the Expression of Interest is now open until June 23rd.
After a few years of closed session discussions, it was determined the school was built on an unopened road allowance which belongs to Adelaide Metcalfe. It was also determined that the unopened road allowance is not suitable land to house the school house and there are not any immediate plans for the road allowance.
If no buyer comes forward, the question of what to do next will fall upon the Township.
