There is a contest open to seniors in Ontario with a flair for writing. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 270 in Coldwater is hosting the 3rd annual literary competition for seniors 55 years of age and older regardless of whether they are a Legion member or not. Chair of the literary contest Betty-Jean Murray says the idea came from a poem written by someone in Holland who was grateful that Canada took part in World War II.
Murray says contestants must be a resident of Ontario, and their work (essays, poems, short story, memoirs) must be original and not have been previously published. Deadline for submissions is Saturday May 1st with the winner to be announced in June during Seniors month.
All entries must be emailed to branch270seniorsliterary@gmail.com.
Murray says they hope that they will be able to present the winner with the award in-person in June which is Seniors Month, or once Branches are allowed to re-open. Contact your local Legion branch for more information.
