Nancy Duarte is an elementary school music teacher at Our Lady Immaculate Public School in Strathroy, who says her most proud moment in her career is the Musical Futures Program, which she piloted from the UK about nine years ago. The program teaches children how to play musical instruments. However, you have to go back 30 years to reach Duarte’s teaching debut, teaching grades 1-8 and JK and SK on occasion. The experienced educator pointed out that it is an extremely touching moment when she can see her work paid off for a student.
Since her days at Western for their Music Education program, Duarte’s career, like most, has been full of challenges, but she says the pandemic has been the toughest obstacle she’s ever faced, and thanks those close to her for their support.
The aforementioned Musical Futures Program has been an aspect of the job that involves the flexibility Duarte is so proud of. While not all kids have the resources they need to complete the program from home, Duarte is doing her best.
Duarte says she knew she wanted to teach because she’s always loved children and been fluent in music, and was very passionate when describing the dedication a teacher must have to be in the field.
While highlighting challenges and triumphs in Duarte’s career, it’s important to remember there are many more to come for the Strathroy educator.
