
It was one calendar year yesterday, January 31st, 2020, when the Middlesex-London Health Unit announced a Western University student who had returned from Wuhan, China, was the first COVID-19 case in the Middlesex-London region.
March 27th, 2020, 74-year-old Martin Postma of Strathroy fell ill after a month-long trip to Portugal, later passing away and becoming the first COVID-19 death in the region.
December 23rd, 2020, the first COVID vaccine administered in the region went to Karen Dann, an administrator at Komoka’s Country Terrace long-term care home.
January 5th, 2021, the health unit reported 161 new COVID cases, the largest single-day spike of the pandemic to date.
The most COVID deaths per month came last month with 73 in the region, next after that was 35 in both April and December.
Residents of London account for about 4,927 or 86% of the COVID-19 cases reported by the health unit since the pandemic began. Far after that are Middlesex Centre with 238 cases and Strathroy-Caradoc with 191.
The village of Newbury has had just two reported COVID cases since the pandemic began. The Township of Adelaide Metcalfe, had no cases until late December, now they have 13 reported cases.
