Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department were called to a fire on Parkview Drive around 11:30pm Friday night. Several of the department’s volunteer firefighters had to go past the residence on the way to the fire hall. The house of origin was fully involved at that time with fire venting through the roof but no one was home at the time. When firefighters arrived on scene smoke and flames were coming from the roof vents on a second home as well. A neighbour who notified the homeowners in the second home self-evacuated themselves from their residence. The roof on the original home was partially collapsed so crews did not not make entry into it due to concerns of the roof collapsing on firefighters. They set up the aerial truck to attack the fire from above. Fire Chief Brian George says his firefighters did a great job in knocking the fire down considering the fire load in both residences. The Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted due to the damage estimate and that firefighters were injured. Both fire have been released and neither injury is considered serious and no residents were injured. A drone was brought in on Saturday to view the extent of the fire in the daylight. The Fire Department was able to view the fire flow pathways from one home to the other to assist in the investigation. It was a very difficult fire to fight due to the extent of the fire upon arrival. Early estimates of damage are in excess of $1,000,000.
