On Tuesday the federal and provincial governments announced the return of Ipperwash Provincial Park to Kettle and Stony Point First Nations. The returned land stretches just under 46 hectares on the banks of Lake Huron. In 2007, the province announced its intention to return the land to the First Nations, and for now, Camp Ipperwash remains federal government territory. The announcement comes days after the 25th anniversary of the death of Dudley George by police, during wide-scale attempts to reclaim the very same land, referred to in history as the “Ipperwash Crisis.”
