In accordance with the changes released by the OMHA and OHF, the upcoming Strathroy and District Minor Hockey Association season will look very different. Teams will consist of 9 players and a goalie, with gameplay of 3-on-3 and 4-on-4. At this point in time the league isn’t capable of running games for those aged 7 and under, citing the need for additional coaching and uncertainty of ice availability as some of the reasons why. There will also be no body contact at all levels, no tryouts, and shared practices. SDMHA President Warren Woodiwiss said questions still remain in how the 50 person indoor max number will be regulated, as he feels it shouldn’t come down to volunteers policing parents and guardians going in and out.
Woodiwiss also said the registration fee of $300 for this unusual season has been adjusted accordingly.
Woodiwiss says teams will begin with two ice times a week on average, and they’ll be formed based on last year’s standings.
