Of course when we talk long weekends, we talk fireworks but what you may not know is the law and safety reminders when it comes to fireworks. Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Chief Brian George says residents are still bound by any restrictions that are stipulated under the Emergency Orders in place at that time. He says when it comes to holiday weekends, there are rules.
As far as safety around fireworks George says only adults should be handling fireworks, keep water or pail of water nearby in case they need extinguishing, discharging fireworks should be away from any combustible buildings or dry grass, and be careful with the wind so you know where the fireworks are going to end up after they are discharged. The fire department has not instituted a Fireworks ban, they have the by-law with the appropriate restrictions within it. Fireworks are only allowed to be discharged on the evening of May 18th this year.
