Scott Mackey (Coach with Strathroy’s Youth 4-pitch Baseball League)
Scott Mackey is a coach with the Strathroy 4-Pitch Youth Baseball League. Mackey got into coaching five years ago, after his sons made the switch from soccer to baseball. There weren’t a lot of coaches out there and as a lover of the game, Mackey decided to give it a shot. He says watching the kids develop from the start of the year until what they look like the end of the season is pretty cool. A challenge he said he’s faces is figuring out each kid’s personalities and remembering the names. They only play once a week with no practices so it’s a very low-key league. He says it’s important to have a good support crew in order to keep everything running, it’s definitely not a one-person job. That’s the advice he shares with people also interested in coaching. An accomplishment he’s proud of is that each of the five years Mackey’s coached the team has won the all-star game.
