People living with Crohn's or colitis may have a hope of living disease free on the horizon.
Canadian drug development company Qu Biologic and McMaster University have been working towards finding a way to put Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis into remission.
Dr. Hal Gunn is the CEO of Qu Biologic and explains that -until now- most treatments for these diseases were aimed at managing the symptoms by suppressing the human immune system
Currently the treatment is in phase 2 of testing on people, which means that it has already passed safety tests.
It now just needs to prove itself as an effective treatment.
Dr.Gunn says that from what he's seen so far, patients will see a 50% remission rate within 8 weeks of treatment, and after 52 weeks the disease is practically gone.
Dr. Gunn adds that this research couldn't have been done without the help of McMaster University.
He says that if you live within 2-3 hours of the McMaster campus and live with Crohn's or colitis, you can visit quibd.com to join the clinical trials.
