PETITION CIRCULATING ONLINE AIMS TO HAULT IMPORTS OF SHARK FIN 8/7/2018 9:56:55 AM
A London woman had started a petition that would put an end to shark fin soup in Canada.
Shark Conservationalist Victoria Alexander launched petition E-1793 on the house of commons website to support Bill C-251, an Act to amend the Federal Fisheries Act that would ban the import of shark fins from around the world coming to Canada.
Alexander says that despite current federal laws, Canada is still a big consumer of shark fins.
Shark fin soup doesn't have a discernable taste, and is generally considered as a sign of wealth in certain cultures. It is often eaten at special occasions for the sole purpose of displaying that wealth.
Alexander opened the petition online on July 25th, and so far it had garnered over 500 signatures.
