Mosquitoes are a common pest during the summer, which is why the Health Unit keeps track of area mosquito breeding areas and tests for West Nile Virus. Keshia Hackett, Public Health Inspector with the Health Unit says while West Nile is not deadly, it has some unpleasant side effects.

Hackett says some basic ways to reduce your exposure to bites include wearing light-coloured, long-sleeved shirts and pants, use insect repellent, fix any screen doors or windows and disturb any still water on your property.
