The cap and trade program is no more in Ontario. On Tuesday Premier Doug Ford announced that the first order of the Progressive Conservative government would be to get rid of the program. Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton says the party made this commitment from the beginning.
But the program won't just go away as the PC government says all contracts and arrangements will be honoured. The program cost Ontarians and businesses $8 billion according to Ontario's Auditor General who conducted an audit of the program. All initiatives supported by the cap and trade fund will be decided on a case by case basis moving forward.
