MAYOR VANDERHEYDEN RIGHT IN MIDDLE OF HEALTH UNIT AND COUNTY SPAT 3/12/2018 9:30:01 AM
As myFm reported to you Friday, the London-area public health agency and Middlesex County politicians are headed to court.
Deadlocked over a major downtown move, the decision could be the first shot in what might be a long battle over the future of the health unit's headquarters. The Middlesex-London Health Unit is seeking judicial review on whether it can go ahead with a planned move from its King Street location to a nearly 6,500 square-metre space at nearby Citi Plaza, a proposal County Council rejected a day earlier in a 6-4 vote. County Council members Marcel Meyer, Kurtis Smith and Strathroy-Caradoc Mayor Joanne Vanderheyden are on the Health Unit's board and Vanderheyden is smack dab in the middle on this as a member of County Council and the Chair of the Health Board.
The health agency is asking a judge to decide whether it can proceed under the rules set out in Ontario's Health Protection and Promotion Act.
