As we know minimum wage went up to $14 and hour January 1st and is slated to go up again next January in 2019. There has been much discussion in recent weeks about the unintended consequences of Bill 148, and extended numerous labour and employment standards provisions. General Manager of the Strathroy and District Chamber of Commerce Kathy Manness says the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) and their members along with the Strathroy and District Chamber of Commerce (SDCC) understand the intent of the legislation. Manness says they will be a voice for their members.
The SDCC and OCC will continue to call on government to provide offsets in the upcoming budget that will help employers manage this drastic increase in labour costs. Manness says Ontario Chambers must ensure that they are doing all they can so that Ontario remains competitive.
