ONTARIO BILL FOR A POET LAUREATE IN MEMORY OF GORD DOWNIE 12/7/2017 7:14:57 AM
A bill has been introduced in the Ontario legislature that would create the province's first poet laureate position in memory of the late Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie. Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton says he is in full support of this bill.
Ontario currently doesn't have an official poet laureate, an official who writes poetry to be used in Queen's Park and often participates in creating poet workshops in public schools. The Bill was put forward by Windsor NDP MPP Percy Hatfield and is scheduled to go through second and third reading without incident.
