MINISTRY OF LABOUR CONTINUES TO INVESTIGATE INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENT
8/8/2017 7:45:03 AM

A family is counting their lucky stars following an industrial accident close to Ilderton last week. As myFM reported to you last week, 38-year-old Geoff Morphew had a concrete slab fall on himself at work last Wednesday morning.

Morphew was working at Coldstream Concrete in the quality control area when a cable snapped, dropping a concrete culvert directly onto his right arm.

His wife Sarah told media that surgeons had said that the weight of the slab - nearly 23,000 kilograms - actually saved her husband's life by cauterizing the veins because if not, then he would have bled out.

Geoff was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries but unfortunately his arm had to be amputated.

The Ministry of Labour investigation is ongoing.
