One drowning is one too many, and the Ontario Provincial Police is providing tips to stay save in or on the water.
OPP Media Relations Officer Jamie Stanley says water safety starts with being prepared and understanding risks.

Stanley adds that the most common cause of death for children aged 1 to 4 is drowning in backyard pools, so police recommend swimming lessons, personal flotation devices, gates around pools and close supervision. He says that while some people don't think PFD's are cool, they are life-saving, and children tend to imitate adults.
