Optimist Park has been damaged by a fire. Middlesex County OPP say on Saturday July 8th at around 11:00 p.m., members of the Middlesex Centre Fire Service and police responded to a structure fire at Deer Haven Optimist Park in Ilderton. The fire was quickly defused by firefighters, however further investigation thus far has revealed that suspects ignited ignited flammable material inside the public washroom. The fire caused damage to wood and vinyl materials, as well as smoke damage to the interior. The public washrooms remain closed as a result of the damage, with the cost of repairs estimated at $10,000. Any person with information regarding the incident is advised to contact police or their nearest police authority. Police have deemed the fire as arson and an investigation continues.
